SCOTT VANDAME

Principal, Senior Mechanical Engineer

Scott co-founded CORE Group in September of 2007, where he currently performs duties as a Senior Engineer and Senior Consultant. His responsibilities include providing comprehensive code consulting services in both fire protection and security disciplines, reviewing fire protection system shop drawings and performing system acceptance inspections and witnessing acceptance testing and reviewing building permit plans for compliance with applicable codes and standards.

Scott has been an active participant in the fire protection and security communities for over 20 years. Prior to founding CORE, Scott worked as a Senior Engineer for Lourenco Consultants. His duties included providing code consulting services to developers and designers, reviewing architectural and engineering plans, and inspecting and witnessing testing of fire protection systems and related life safety systems for compliance with applicable construction codes.

Scott was formerly a Principal with Schirmer Engineering Corporation where he conducted extensive design, consulting, and construction period services for new and retrofit construction on both a local and national basis. His comprehensive experience addressed fire protection, security and central station monitoring facility concerns. Design services included code research, drawing preparation and technical specifications development, as well as significant client interaction during the development process. His consulting services included comprehensive feasibility studies, hazard analyses, false alarm investigations, system troubleshooting, technical reports, and general code consulting. During construction period services, he coordinated contract bidding and awards, managed design clarification requests, evaluated change order requests and conducted inspections on the owners behalf.

Scott served as Director of Fire Operations for a major security systems contractor with a Underwriter Laboratories (UL) listed central monitoring station. Scott was in charge of all aspects of the fire alarm program including management of fire alarm system installation, monitoring, inspection and service programs. He also performed system programming as a licensed Edwards Systems Technologies fire alarm system programmer. He was involved in construction management and system maintenance for several design-build high rise retrofits and commercial construction projects. He further created and established a corporate certification program for fire alarm designers.

Scott’s vast array of experience includes design and installation of security systems including intrusion detection, access control, closed circuit television, and remote monitoring systems. His designs have addressed security and life safety integration for commercial applications, specifically coordinating security goals with life safety code requirements.

Scott has actively participated on NFPA Technical Committees, the District of Columbia Construction Codes Coordinating Board, SFPE Task Group for development of a national fire alarm training course and NICET committee for redevelopment of the testing and certification program.  Scott holds his Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from Case Western Reserve University.
